Manila Ocean Park Opening Very Soon

January 23, 2008

Come February 2008, Manila will have someting new to offer to its tourists - the Manila Ocean Park (MOP). Brace yourself as the much awaited opening of this new Landmark will finally  be pushed through. It is the country’s first state-of-the-art Oceanarium, open water marine habitat, boutique mall, restaurant row and function facilities all located in one complex at the back of the Quirino Grandstand, Luneta.

This P1-billion project of Singaporean and Malaysian investors is the first world-class marine park to adopt a “fusion concept.” It will house the first and largest aquarium facility in the Philippines and is the most advanced ocean parks in Asia — with an area larger than the famous Sentosa oceanarium in Singapore.

Opening in February is the first phase of the park which includes its main attraction - the oceanarium. The second phase, which includes the marine-themed mall and hotel, and the third phase, the open marine habitats, would be completed late this year. The park is scheduled to open last December 2007 in time for the Holiday but was postponed due to damages incurred when a fire broke out on one of its ceilings that was caused by some welder works. But the waiting is finally over. We need not to go to Singapore, Malaysia or Hongkong anymore to experience the kind of experience Manila Ocean Park will offer.

The opening of MOP is expected to beef up the tourism of the City of Manila and the Philippines as a whole. I hope that this new landmark right in the heart of Manila will revive not only Luneta but the entire city. So, let’s go take a quick look to its facilities as envisioned by the architects of the project.

Oooh, I’ve read it a month ago and thought it was just a bluff. TOTOO PALA. :p

Bahura is reef pala. Nice vocabs for them *claps*.

Posted by utakGAGO at January 24, 2008, 11:12 am

This is so cool. We’ve seen those big machines used for its construction when we went to Manila last December and my father told me about it. But I didn’t know that it’s even bigger than the Sentosa oceanarium. Now, I wonder when I can go there.

@utakGAGO
yeah totoo nga ito! and natawa din ako sa Bahura, parang balahura eh, ano pala ang pakiramdam ng malaglag sa goddam canal

@Christian
I can’t wait din for the opening. Sentosa’s total area i think is bigger pa din, yung ocenarium lang per se yung bigger

I visited last wednesday (Jan. 23) and now I doubt if the planned February will push through, para kasing napakarami pang kailangang gawin.. oh well, i maybe wrong… good luck!

Posted by bleue at January 25, 2008, 11:27 am

Coooool. I’m definitely going there once it opens. I’m just wondering though. Is this area in the Manila Bay clean enough for the ‘living ocean’ and ‘overhead tank’ features? Or maybe these are segregated. Pardon the ignorance. heheh.

It’s almost the second week of February and yet I haven’t heard any buzz from the news regarding its exact opening date. Any updates? I’m planning to go there this weekend.

Finally, the Philippines can be proud of something like the oceanarium. Sana man lg tuloy tuloy lang ang mga ganito kaysa tuloy tuloy na winawasak ng politika ang potential growth ng mahal nating bansa. I’d been to China and look at them, they are soon going to be the world’s biggest nation habang tayo ay pababa nang pababa. I will visit the manila ocean park soon. Itaas mo!

I hope ma broaden pa ang coverage ng may discount, meron bang special rate para sa mga government employees? paano na ang mga senior citizens? hindi ba masyadong mahal? paano na mga ordinaryong filipino baka hindi ma-afford ang rates. on the other hand, napakaganda nitong itinayo na ito and its about time, sana madagdagan pa ang mga ganitong attraction sa Philippines katulad ng disneyland.

MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE MANILA OCEAN PARK:

Manila Ocean Park is the first world-class, marine-themed park in the Philippines set to open in February 2008. It adopts a fusion concept, bringing together in one complex, an Oceanarium, a shopping mall, a restaurant row, a specialty hotel, sea water lagoons and multi-purpose function facilities.

A foreign investment project highly supported by the Office of the President and the Philippine Tourism Authority, it houses the largest Aquarium facility in the Philippines. The Oceanarium and Open Water Marine Habitats contain 12,000m3 of seawater that features an assortment of colorful fishes and invertebrates indigenous to the Philippines and Southeast Asia. Strategically located at the back of Quirino Grandstand in Rizal Park, Manila Ocean Park is a welcome addition to the historic city of Manila.
China Oceanis Philippines, Inc., is the proponent of this project; a joint undertaking of Singaporean and Malaysian investors and a subsidiary of the Singapore-registered company, China Oceanis Group Pte Ltd. Our core business is in the design, development, operation and marketing of aquarium facilities, with a roster of specialists capable of providing end-to-end services to customers. Previous projects of the company include the Sahara Star Hotel’s aquarium in India and four (4) projects in China, namely: Nanjing Underwater World, Tai Ping Yang Underwater World, Qin Huang Dao Xinao Underwater World and Chong Qing Xinao Underwater World.
Our vision is to be the best and most admired destination for travel & tourism, marine education, shopping and dining in the country, with our world-class and state-of-the-art facilities. Filipino, young, vibrant, dynamic, wholesome, family oriented, friendly, helpful, knowledgeable (the “Marine Experts”), high-tech and premium are the adjectives that would best describe Manila Ocean Park.

MANILA OCEAN PARK ATTRACTIONS:

The Oceanarium
The oceanarium journey is divided into 7 sections. Each section carries a Filipino name to instill national pride. It replicates the water flow from fresh water source that eventually leads to the open ocean, creating a model of the interconnectedness between land and sea. It then takes one through the different depths of the sea, showing each area’s beautiful and natural inhabitants.

The main attraction of the Oceanarium is a 25-meter long, 220-degree-curve acrylic walkway tunnel in the main tank where one is given an amazing idea of what it feels like to be surrounded by underwater wonders without actually getting wet.

The Oceanarium would have large multi-purpose halls housing interactive multi-media educational exhibits. The same spaces are capable of hosting various functions for corporate and private customers. T
he second level of the oceanarium journey includes fun activities such as a glass-bottom boat ride, fish spa, hermit crab race, fish feeding, souvenir shop and dining facilities.

The Concourse Plaza, Boutique Mall & Hotel
By July 2008, Manila Ocean Park shall have a marine-themed mall that will feature quality shops and a restaurant row alongside a promenade that offers an exhilarating view of the Manila Bay.
The hotel, which is set to open on December 2008 will be first of its kind and unique with half of the rooms having an unobstructed view of the ocean and the beautiful Manila Bay sunset, while the other rooms will have a giant aquarium running through their walls to complete the MOP experience.

The Concourse Plaza, located at the main entrance of Manila Ocean Park is the central activity area for the facility, dividing the Oceanarium from the Mall and the Hotel. This is where events like concerts, product launches, shows and the likes will take place 365 days a year. It opens together with the Oceanarium on February 2008.

Open Water Marine Habitat
Two (2) Open-water Marine Habitats will be available to people who would like the opportunity to dive, swim, and snorkel or even learn to dive without having to go to far-flung places. These man-made seawater lagoons are simulations of the ocean, complete with corals and fishes. This amazing attraction is scheduled to open on December 2008.

mabuhay! salamat naman at hindi nahuhuli ang pilipinas sa state-of-the-art facilites themed park gaya ng MOP. yun nga lang at hindi pinoy ang investors and from the name of the company itself pa lang “china…” parang nakakahiya na yung bansang tumitingala sa’tin nung panahon ni Marcos ay sya na ngayong ating tinitingala. pero ok lang yun sa’kin, at least asian din sila at isang mas importante dito ay nagkaroon na tayo ng sarili nating oceanarium. kaya lang bakit 25-meters lang? yun sentosa is 85-meters yata if i’m not mistaken. parang bitin eh.. pwede bang habaan pa yun. kasi para sa akin na isang nature lover and day dreamer yung 25-meters is not enough. ‘di ba pwedeng habaan sya hanggang sa corregidor island to make it the longest oceanarium in the whole world? hehehe… sana ganito lagi ang mangyari sa pilipinas na may mga bumubukas na new opportunities and businesses and at the same time tourist spot para umunlad ang bayan natin hindi yung bangayan sa pulitika, nakakasawa. hindi ba pwedeng suportahan na lang natin si gloria at kung may corruption man eh daanin na lang sa pormal na paraan? may kunstitusyon naman tayo eh bakit hindi sundin ‘di ba? sila na lang ang magpeople power at ako nama’y pupunta sa MOP. balance ‘di ba? isa pa, mas may matutunan ako dun at mag-eenjoy! pero may pahabol ako kay mr. Edwin Ventura (Head of Sales). Pwede po bang babaan ng konti ang entrance fee? Php400 is really costly especially sa mga taga-probinsya na ang rate is $200 a day lang. Kasi I’m sure naman na hindi once in a lifetime lang yan pupunta at bibisita sa MOP baka nga every celebration pa yan pumunta with their families. Kasi paano naman yung talagang can’t afford? eh…Wala lang, pahabol lang… sabi ko nga… cge, alis na ko… salamat po! hehehe…

Posted by izakyakov at March 10, 2008, 4:31 am

pwede ba mag apply dyan?heheh

Posted by Pamela at March 22, 2008, 2:53 pm

when is the exact opening of the ocean park? My husband and I really want to see the place, i saw it in the tv before it’s the best.

Posted by ghie at March 28, 2008, 6:06 pm

it’s nice to know that there’s a place here in the philippines where we can relax and see the wonders of the ocean and be amazed with the living habit of other species.

Posted by krase at April 20, 2008, 11:26 am

been to MOP last week, well..ok naman sya..species are nice..pero nagrereklamo un group na dinala ko dun kasi medyo mahal daw ang entrance fee nila..cguro tlagang ganun kasi dry-run palang un establishment at medyo adjustment at sympre dahil bago lang wla pang promo, coz all people are going there! pero pag medyo matagal na yan, im sure baba na rin ang rates nila, ganun naman talaga..you can’t compare naman MOP to other oceanarium in HKG or BKK kasi sympre mas high-tech tech.naman sila at mahal papunta dun no! hehehe..kaya tayo mga pilipino dito muna tayo punta saka na natin pangarapin ang ocean park, HOngkong pag afford na ha! hehehe..pero mapagmamalaki na rin talaga ang MOP, i give 2thumbs up to MOP!

Posted by eastwaytravel at April 29, 2008, 12:08 pm
